Overview

SITRANS Probe LU240 is a compact non-contact ultrasonic level transmitter. In a mud logging installation, it can monitor pit level and support volume calculations without contacting the drilling fluid.

The transmitter is available in 3 m, 6 m and 12 m versions. Process intelligence echo processing, automatic false-echo suppression and integrated temperature compensation help maintain reliable measurement when fixed obstructions or temperature changes are present.

Specifications

Measurement principle: non-contact ultrasonic.

Ranges: 0.2-3 m, 0.2-6 m or 0.2-12 m, depending on the selected version.

Operating frequency: 54 kHz.

Output: 4-20 mA; HART 7 is available on supported configurations.

Resolution: ≤3 mm. Non-repeatability: ≤3 mm.

Accuracy, 3 m version: 10 mm. Accuracy, 6 m and 12 m versions: ±0.15% of range or 6 mm, whichever is greater; ±2 mm at distances of 4 m or less under the stated product conditions.

Blanking distance: 0.2 m. Update time: ≤4 seconds. Beam angle: 10°.

Supply: 10.5-30 V DC for the 4-20 mA/HART configuration.

Ambient operating temperature: -40 to 80 °C. Process connection temperature: -40 to 85 °C.

Enclosure: IP66/IP68, Type 4X and Type 6. Typical weight: 0.93 kg.

Materials and connections

The enclosure is corrosion-resistant PBT engineering plastic. Wetted transducer materials are available in ETFE or PVDF with a Buna-N seal.

Process connections include 2-inch NPT, R 2-inch BSPT or G 2-inch BSPP threads. A 3-inch universal flange adapter and FMS 200 mounting bracket are available as accessories.

Installation

Mount the transmitter above the measured surface with a clear acoustic path. Avoid aiming the beam at fill streams, pipes, welds, ladders or vessel walls. Keep the installation perpendicular to the target surface and account for the 0.2 m blanking distance.

General-purpose and hazardous-area approvals depend on the exact ordered configuration. Confirm the required output, wetted material, process connection, cable entry, display and certification before ordering.

Quotation check: legacy specifications may be incomplete or outdated. Confirm operating range, output signal, materials, hazardous-area requirement, documentation, and certification for the current order.
